As soon as the New Year begins in Austria, the famous 'Blue Danube Waltz' plays on TV and radio, and many Austrians dance into the New Year, with church bells and fireworks in the background. In London, the sound of bells is important, too. Crowds gather in Trafalgar Square to wait for Big Ben to strike midnight. When the time comes, some people jump into the fountains, while others link arms and sing the song “Auld Lang Syne”. There are also fireworks on TV and at the big celebrations in London and other big cities, but people do not usually set off fireworks in their gardens.
