Butterflies and Frogs

If someone says, "I have butterflies in my stomach," it does not mean real butterflies are in their body! It means they feel nervous or excited about something. If a person has "a bee in their bonnet," it means they keep thinking about an idea and cannot stop talking about it. Another funny one is "it’s raining cats and dogs," which means it is raining very heavily – not that cats and dogs are falling from the sky! Another common saying is "to have a frog in one's throat." This means a person’s voice sounds strange or rough, like when they have a sore throat.
